Mystic Seaport is 1 mi. s. of I-95 exit 90 to 75 Greenmanville Ave., along the Mystic River. Among its 19 acres are more than 50 historic houses, shops, galleries and trade buildings that promote an understanding of life in a seaport during the mid-19th century. The last of the wooden whaling ships, the Charles W. Morgan, the 1882 training ship Joseph Conrad and the fishing schooner L.A. Dunton can be boarded by visitors; many other ships and boats are displayed. Ship models, scrimshaw, figureheads and small boats trace the history of ships, shipbuilding and maritime activities. A children's museum contains toys, clothing and games popular in the 19th century while a planetarium offers shows. The 1908 steamboat Sabino offers half-hour excursions on the Mystic River. Food is available. Time: Allow 2 hours minimum.
