Tusayan Ruin and Museum is 22 mi. e. of Grand Canyon Village on a short spur leading off Desert View Dr. The ruin is a U-shaped, prehistoric pueblo inhabited 1185-1225 by two generations of Ancestral Puebloans; it contains about 15 rooms and about 30 people lived there. The Ancestral Puebloans are believed to be the ancestors of the Hopi as well as other Pueblo tribes. The museum traces the development of the Native American culture at the canyon. Exhibits include a painting of the ruin, displays about modern tribes and such Ancestral Puebloan artifacts as pottery, twig figurines and rock drawings. An adjacent .1-mile paved trail runs around the pueblo. A self-guiding brochure is available at the trailhead. Note: Inclement weather may result in winter closures; phone ahead.
