Founded by Gen. Benjamin Wait in 1782 in a region known as Mad River Valley—which also comprises the towns of Warren, Fayston and Moretown—this former dairying and lumbering center is now in the heart of a premier winter sports region. Hiking, road and mountain biking, fishing, swimming, and downhill and cross-country skiing are popular activities.
