Overall Observations
The Genesis GV80 midsize luxury crossover, brand new in 2021, is
Genesis’ first SUV, and offers plenty of value and desirable features.
Our test vehicle was powered by a 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged V6 (375
hp) with an 8-speed automatic and equipped with all-wheel drive.
There’s abundant power on tap, and the suspension provides a nice
balance of responsive handling and a smooth ride, but gas mileage
(20 mpg combined) and throttle response could stand improvement.
The quiet cabin looks and feels elegant, with genuine wood
trim and lots of space and comfort for all passengers. Fit and finish
approach that of European and Japanese rivals, but the optional third
row is suitable only for youngsters.
There are also desirable standard features galore, including bright
LED headlights with auto high beams, many advanced safety features,
heated and cooled seats, an oversize panoramic sunroof, and a
navigation system with a huge 15-inch touch screen.
Where the GV80 falls short is its infotainment system. Menu
displays are busy, and the recessed control knob is somewhat
awkward to use. All in all, however, the GV80 is an impressive first
attempt at a luxury midsize SUV.
