Overall Observations
In their rush to embrace crossovers, many consumers learn too late
that the reduced gas mileage typical of most car-based SUVs can be
disappointing. Not so with the compact Honda CR-V Hybrid, which
combines the practical goodness of the well-regarded standard
CR-V with a gasoline-electric hybrid powertrain that’s exceptionally
fuel-efficient (38 mpg in combined driving). The seamless hybrid
system (212 hp total) delivers acceptable, if somewhat unexciting,
performance.
The spacious passenger cabin offers easy entry and exit, although
the interior’s styling could use a little updating. In addition, the
infotainment system and smallish rearview-camera display feel
outdated, and the transmission and shifter layout are unintuitive.
The upside, of course, is why you bought a crossover in the first
place - plenty of room for 4 adults or an impressive amount of stuff. In
fact, fold down the CR-V Hybrid’s rear seatbacks and you have a cargo
hold on par with midsize crossovers. LED headlights and the Honda
Sensing suite of advanced safety features are standard, confirming the
CR-V Hybrid’s solid value.
