Overall Observations
The Lincoln Aviator crossover, which was redesigned in 2020, is a
handsome blend of luxury and practicality. The stylish leather- and
wood-trimmed cabin can be fitted with 30-way adjustable heated/
ventilated front seats with massage, a 360-degree camera system,
a panoramic sunroof, and an excellent 28-speaker Revel premium
audio system, all in a roomy space with comfortable seating for up
to 7 passengers - or up to 78 cubic feet of cargo with the third-row
seats folded down. Standard safety features include adaptive LED
headlights with auto high beam and Lincoln’s Co-Pilot360 set of
advanced safety features.
The Grand Touring model we tested came with an uncommon
upside, a standard plug-in hybrid powertrain. This setup pairs a
3.0-liter twin-turbocharged V6 with an electric motor for a total output
of 494 hp. Ride quality is remarkably smooth, thanks in large part to
the Aviator’s air suspension, although the throttle response can be a
little touchy. Handling is respectable, though the emphasis is more
on coddling than responsiveness. The Aviator’s rechargeable battery
gives it just a 21-mile all-electric range, and recharging times are on
the long side.
