Overall Observations
Introduced in 2019 and freshened in 2022, the Genesis G70 compact
sport sedan might not get the acclaim of its European competitors,
but it’s just as appealing. For starters, its handsome, distinctive styling
sets it apart from other luxury brands’ small 4-doors.
Our test car’s V6 engine and all-wheel drive system delivered
strong acceleration, although we experienced some throttle delay.
The transmission shifted harshly at times, the brakes were touchy,
and fuel economy is subpar. But the G70’s suspension offers a
pleasing balance of ride comfort and sporty handling.
An attractive, upscale passenger cabin features a new, eyecatching
10-inch touch-screen infotainment display. Along with loads
of other technology, there are plenty of creature comforts, too,
including a navigation system, heated front seats and steering wheel,
and LED headlights with auto high beams. The backseat is a little
short on space, though, and a high rear deck restricts visibility. A long
list of advanced safety features, including a new front center airbag,
is standard. Genesis delivers all of this, plus a stellar warranty and 3
years/36,000 miles of complimentary maintenance, for thousands
less than the competition.
