Overall Observations
The stylish midsize GV70 crossover, new in 2022, has the headturning
good looks that generate a lot of second glances. Its
aggressive stance and distinctive details, such as slit-like LED
headlights and taillights, give off a vibe that’s equal parts sports car
and luxury sedan - in a package that costs thousands of dollars less
than the competition.
That impression is reinforced by the GV70’s smooth powertrain
and standard all-wheel-drive system. An electronically controlled
adaptive suspension strikes an optimal balance between ride comfort
and responsive handling - it’s way more fun to drive than a crossover
has a right to be.
The posh, quiet cabin is lined in quilted leather upholstery with
suede inserts and carbon fiber trim. The driver’s seat (heated and
ventilated, with massage) is especially comfortable and supportive.
Other amenities on our tester included an optional panoramic
sunroof.
Still, there are a few negatives: The GV70’s infotainment system
and some controls on the dash and center console are not intuitive,
transmission shifts lack smoothness at times, and fuel economy is
subpar (21 mpg in combined driving).
