Overall Observations
The Hyundai Tucson, now in its fourth generation, was completely
redesigned for 2022, including the addition of the hybrid version
reviewed here, and a plug-in hybrid (see page 153). The compact
crossover’s most obvious change is its bold styling, such as distinctive
headlights that flow down into the daytime running lights along the
edges of the grille.
The Tucson’s efficient hybrid powertrain produces smooth
performance and excellent fuel-economy numbers, although our
reviewers noticed some hesitation from the transmission. All-wheel
drive is standard. Handling in everyday driving is competent, but the
steering lacks feedback.
The new Tucson has a noticeably more spacious interior, with
abundant room throughout. Cargo space has likewise expanded, to
a total of 75 cubic feet - although backseat entry and exit are a bit
awkward. The infotainment system, which lacks knobs and hard keys,
is difficult to use.
Nonetheless, LED headlights with auto high beams, a complete list
of advanced safety features, good rearview camera quality, wireless
Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, and 3 years/36,000
miles of complimentary maintenance all contribute to the Tucson
Hybrid’s strong overall value.
