Overall Observations
The completely redesigned Hyundai Tucson Hybrid is one of the
newest hybrid crossovers. The fourth-generation compact crossover’s
most obvious change is its bold styling, such as distinctive headlights
that flow down into the daytime running lights along the edges of the
grille. Bulging fenders and a prominent chrome strip that runs along
the roofline add to the eye-catching design.
The Tucson’s hybrid powertrain consists of a 1.6-liter turbocharged
4-cylinder gasoline engine and an electric motor (226 hp total).
All-wheel drive is standard. This setup delivers smooth performance
while returning excellent, if not class-leading, fuel economy (37 mpg
combined). Handling in everyday driving is competent, although the
steering lacks feedback.
The new Tucson has a noticeably more spacious interior, with
abundant room throughout. Cargo space has likewise expanded,
to a total of 75 cubic feet—although backseat entry and exit are a
bit difficult. The infotainment system, which lacks knobs and hard
keys, is difficult to use. LEDs with auto high beams, a complete list of
advanced safety features, and 3 years/36,000 miles of complimentary
maintenance are standard
