Introduction:

To help members understand the latest automotive technology so they can purchase vehicles that best suit their needs, the Automobile Club of Southern California's Automotive Research Center (ARC) began testing and reviewing vehicles over a decade ago

For the 2023 edition, we include testing and ranking cars and light trucks with the latest technology, including having at least one advanced driver-assistance system (ADAS) feature. In addition to vehicle evaluation, the guide covers a number of pertinent automotive topics in detail—for example, the latest advanced safety features, how to properly maintain your vehicle, and new vehicles coming to market in the next few years.

Overall Observations

slapped it on its biggest, most luxurious SUV ever. With its smooth, powerful V8, the reborn 3-row Grand Wagoneer can haul up to 8 passengers and their gear in serene comfort and tow almost 10,000 pounds. Its focus may be luxury and comfort, but the Grand Wagoneer hasn’t sacrificed its off-road cred. It has 10 inches of ground clearance (which can be raised 4 inches with its adaptive air suspension) and multiple driving modes for varied terrain. Fit and finish in the Grand Wagoneer’s cabin is excellent; allaround visibility is very good. Standard convenience and safety features for all trims include 4-wheel drive, 4-zone climate control, leather seating, heated and ventilated front seats with massage, and retractable running boards. A full set of standard ADAS features includes automated parking and a 360-degree surround-view camera. Infrared night vision and a digital rearview mirror are 2 of many options. Criticisms: Ride comfort is generally good, but rough roads can cause side-to-side bounciness. Fuel economy is exceedingly low: 15 mpg in combined city/highway driving - premium fuel recommended. Further, the steering radius is large, the steering wheel is sensitive to even the slightest driver inputs, and the touch-sensitive controls and buttons on the touch screen are hard to use. Finally, some reviewers found the rear-end styling ungainly.
