Overall Observations
The Electrified G80, new for 2023, swaps out the
G80 midsize sedan’s gasoline-powered drivetrain
for 2 electric motors, a direct-drive transmission,
and a battery pack.
Offered only in the loaded Prestige trim, the
Electrified G80 is an impressive car. Its efficient
electric drivetrain provides quick acceleration, plenty of power, and
an estimated 282 miles of range. Level 2 and DC fast-charging rates
are impressively fast, and MPGe numbers are high.
Genesis has the Electrified G80’s roadworthiness dialed in, too.
It delivers responsive handling and a comfortable ride, courtesy of
an adaptive suspension. One-pedal regenerative braking is smooth
and unobtrusive.
The Electrified G80’s sumptuous interior, replete with leather,
open-pore wood, and aluminum, provides plenty of space for
front-seat passengers. Overall interior fit and finish are excellent.
A comprehensive set of ADAS features is standard, and plenty of
other tech is standard, too: active noise canceling and the capacity
to power electric appliances outside the vehicle, among others.
Criticisms are minimal. The battery pack intrudes on the interior
space, raising the rear passenger floor and eliminating a couple of
cubic feet of trunk space; rear visibility is compromised by a thick rear
roof pillar and raised deck lid; and some exterior design elements -
notably the large shield-shaped grille and rear end - are polarizing.
