To help members understand the latest automotive technology so they can purchase vehicles that best suit their needs, the Automobile Club of Southern California's Automotive Research Center (ARC) began testing and reviewing vehicles over a decade ago

For the 2024 edition, we include testing and ranking cars and light trucks with the latest technology, including having at least one advanced driver-assistance system (ADAS) feature. In addition to vehicle evaluation, the guide covers a number of pertinent automotive topics in detail—for example, the latest advanced safety features, how to properly maintain your vehicle, and new vehicles coming to market in the next few years.

Overall Observations

The Honda Accord midsize sedan, now in its 11th generation, was fully redesigned for 2023. Also, the Accord (see page 93) and the Accord Hybrid are no longer considered separate models: The Accord's bottom 2 trim levels have a gasoline-only powertrain, and the top 4 trims come with a hybrid powertrain. The redesign sharpened up the Accord's exterior styling; the interior—which has plenty of room for passengers and cargo—has a clean, attractive design as well. Our well—equipped test vehicle came with a full suite of advanced safety features, dual-zone climate control, a Bose premium audio system, and automatic LED headlights (with auto high beams) that turn on when the windshield wipers are activated. The Accord Hybrid's powertrain provides better fuel economy than the gasoline-powered Accord (44 mpg versus 32 mpg) and makes a difference in performance as well, delivering plenty of power and seamless gas-electric transitions. The ride is a nice balance of comfort and responsive handling. There's not much to gripe about: Rear visibility is restricted because of a high rear deck, and the sloping roofline makes getting in and out of the back seat somewhat awkward. It should also be noted that the Accord Hybrid's base price ($32,895) is higher than that of other hybrid sedans, such as the Toyota Camry ($28,855) and Hyundai Sonata ($28,450)
