Overall Observations
The original Acura ZDX was a short-lived (2010–2013) gasoline-powered crossover SUV with a sloping roof and a hatch. For 2024, Acura revived the name and gave it to the automaker’s first EV, a midsize luxury crossover SUV based on GM’s Ultium platform. The ZDX is available in 2 trim levels, the base A-Spec and the performance-oriented S. We tested the A-Spec version with dual motors and AWD.
In many ways, the ZDX is a solid performer. Its dual-motor setup (490 hp) provides adequate if not exhilarating acceleration and, with its 102.0-kWh battery, a range of 304 miles. Steering and handling are unexceptional, but the ZDX delivers a comfortable ride. Rear visibility is compromised by wide rear roof pillars and a small back window.
The ZDX’s cabin is spacious, with plenty of headroom and legroom, and the front seats (heated and ventilated) are comfortable. A full set of advanced safety features is standard, as is an 11.3-inch touch screen, a digital instrument cluster, and a Bang & Olufson premium stereo system.
Negatives for the ZDX are more disappointments than flaws. The biggest is that overall, nothing about the ZDX really stands out and separates it from its competitors. Unlike other Acuras, its performance isn’t sporty (even in Sport mode), and its interior doesn’t feel luxurious, especially considering its $70,000 price tag.
