Overall Observations
It’s hard to believe that Ford introduced the Mustang more than 60 years ago. The seventh generation pony car, launched in 2024, feels as fresh and up-to-date as tomorrow. It’s available with a couple of engine choices, lots of customization options, and as a coupe or the convertible we tested.
Our drop-top test car came equipped with the standard 2.3-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder EcoBoost engine (315 hp) mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission, a combo that delivered ample power and torque. (A 5.0-liter V8 that generates 480 hp is also available.)
Our test car also featured an optional high-equipment group, which, among other things, adds Ford’s Co-Pilot360 suite of driver-assist features, and a high-performance package, which includes Brembo brakes, paddle shifters, a limited-slip rear axle, summer tires, and magnetic adaptive suspension.
These options are pricey ($6,475 total), but they improved the Mustang’s handling, stopping power, and ride quality with no significant sacrifice to driving comfort. Two more highlights are the Mustang’s customizable instrument cluster and exhaust note, which enable drivers to tailor each to their preferences.
Drawbacks are minimal and not unexpected in a sports car: Space in the back seat and trunk is limited, and visibility to the sides and rear is restricted by blind spots and a small rear window.
