Overall Observations
Honda hasn’t made much headway in EV development, but with the new-for-2024 Honda Prologue midsize SUV, the automaker has entered the EV big leagues. Kinda.
That qualifier is because the Prologue is built on the Chevy Blazer EV’s Ultium platform and shares many parts with it, including the battery system, electric motors, and some interior elements. The similarities aren’t immediately evident, however, because the two vehicles have completely different sheet metal. They’re equally good looking—just different.
The Prologue is available with single (FWD) or dual (AWD) motors. We tested the top-level Prologue Elite. Its 2 motors (288 hp) provided peppy acceleration and plenty of power, with a smooth, quiet, and controlled ride, although the steering lacked feedback. The EV range—273 miles for the Elite, a higher range for other trims—should put most folks’ range anxiety to rest.
The Prologue’s interior feels airy and spacious, with plenty of headroom front and rear, but some elements—the hard-plastic center console and door panels, for example, look and feel cheap. The Prologue is equipped with a full complement of advanced safety features and, unlike the Blazer EV, supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Negatives for the Prologue include low-capacity DC fast charging (150 kW) and rear visibility limited by a sloping roofline, wide rear pillars, and a small rear window.
