Overall Observations
Kia’s venerable Sorento midsize SUV has been around for more than 2 decades. Slightly smaller than the better-known (and pricier) Telluride, the 3-row Sorento received a major refresh for 2024. Changes include a bold new front fascia and redesigned taillights, 12.3-inch screens for the instruments and infotainment system, and upgrades to tech features and driver aids.
The Sorento is available in 5 main trim levels. We tested the X-Line version of the top-tier SX Prestige trim. It’s powered by a turbocharged 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine (281 hp) linked to an 8-speed automatic transmission. The Sorento is a pleasant daily driver, with a comfortable ride and light, responsive steering; AWD is standard on this trim.
The Sorento’s cabin is attractive and spacious. Our test vehicle came with adjustable second-row captain’s chairs, which provide plenty of legroom for third-row passengers. At higher trim levels, the Sorento isn’t cheap, but it includes lots of desirable standard features, such as the panoramic sunroof, 20-inch gloss-black alloy wheels, leather seating, and power liftgate on our test vehicle. A full suite of ADAS features is standard; higher trims include enhanced safety features.
The Sorento’s negatives aren’t likely to be deal breakers: a delayed throttle response, thin cushions on the third-row seats, potentially distracting touch-screen-based HVAC controls, and a rear roof support and headrests that limited visibility.
