Overall Observations
The Toyota Crown midsize sedan was introduced in 2023, taking the place of the Avalon in Toyota’s lineup. As is increasingly the case with Toyota vehicles, the Crown is available solely as a hybrid. All-wheel drive is standard on all Crown models.
We tested the midlevel Limited trim, which is powered by a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine and 2 electric motors (236 hp). This powertrain’s EPA-estimated fuel efficiency and range are excellent, at 41 mpg and 594 miles, respectively. Ride quality was good even with the optional 21-inch wheels, although the engine was noisy under hard acceleration.
The Crown has a spacious cabin, with good headroom and legroom in both rows. Standard convenience features include a digital instrument cluster, a 12.3-inch touch screen, and wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay integration. Our test car’s added features included upgraded LED headlights, ventilated front and heated rear seats, leather upholstery, a JBL 11-speaker stereo system, and a panoramic glass roof. Toyota’s comprehensive Safety Sense 3.0 suite of advanced safety features is standard.
Negative assessments by the ARC staff were relatively few. Visibility to the rear is restricted by a high rear deck, the sloping roofline makes getting in and out of the back seat awkward, and the dark-grey interior is bland, with some cheap-looking plastic parts .
