Overall Observations
The Toyota Sienna minivan is an appealing vehicle for families seeking comfort and versatility. Its design is bold (as minivans go), with aggressive accent lines and slim, slanted headlights. Our XSE-trim test vehicle sported black 20-inch wheels and a rakish honeycomb grille.
The Sienna is now only available with a hybrid drivetrain—an inline 4-cylinder engine and electric motor (245 hp) that delivers excellent fuel economy (36 mpg in combined city/highway driving). Overall, the Sienna delivers decent handling and a smooth ride, but the engine feels underpowered and is noisy under hard acceleration. And a lot of engine, wind, and road noise get into the cabin. FWD is standard on all trim levels except the Woodlands edition, which comes with AWD.
The Sienna’s spacious cabin seats up to 7 passengers, with ample legroom and headroom in the first and second rows. The Sienna is easy to get in and out of, and quad-zone climate control keeps the interior comfortable. Cargo space is abundant (101 cubic feet maximum), and the third-row seating conveniently stows away. Toyota Safety Sense 2.0, a full suite of advanced safety features, is standard on all Siennas.
A few other drawbacks worth noting include an infotainment system that feels nonintuitive and outdated, plus restricted side visibility. Some interior materials also seem cheap, and the brakes can feel overly touchy.
