Overall Observations
The Equinox compact SUV is traditionally one of Chevy’s best-selling models. For 2025, as it enters its fourth generation, it sports a redesign inside and out. The Equinox comes in 3 trim levels: LT, RS, and Activ. We tested the midlevel RS trim.
Outside, the new Equinox is noticeably hunkier and bolder—it looks like a mini Traverse. Its spacious, attractive cabin provides plenty of legroom and headroom all around. Our test car’s seats and dash had eye-catching red stitching and trim, and the buttons and knobs for the controls have a solid feel and are easy to use.
The Equinox’s standard features list is pretty extensive, including an 11.3-inch touch screen with crisp graphics, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration, heated front seats and steering wheel, and—a rarity these days—a spare tire. A full set of advanced safety features is standard, as well.
Overall, the Equinox performs well, albeit with little fanfare. The ride is comfortable and steering feedback is decent. The brakes, too, provide a good feel in everyday driving.
Unfortunately, a few of the Equinox’s qualities keep it from being a standout in its class. For one, its turbocharged, 175-hp engine—the only one offered—is underpowered. Fuel economy, at 26 mpg in combined driving, is substandard (no hybrid version is available). And, despite appearances, the RS version lacks sportiness.
