AAA Diamond Designations: Designed with Our Travelers in Mind

AAA’s high standards for cleanliness and condition have long been a foundation of our Diamonds program. We know that now more than ever, cleanliness is an important factor when you’re deciding where to stay, so we’ve enhanced our hotel inspection process to give you even more assurance that every Diamond-designated hotel will meet or exceed your expectations.

Our unscheduled annual hotel inspections have always included a detailed look at the quality, cleanliness and condition of the property. Now we've added ATP surface testing, the same technology used in the healthcare and food service industries to verify that high-touch surfaces are as clean as they should be. This scientific validation of cleanliness strengthens the AAA independent inspection our members have counted on for more than 80 years.

Only properties that pass our rigorous inspection can earn AAA Diamond designations, so you can book with confidence knowing that at any Diamond level, you’ll get the service and amenities you expect.

What is the Difference Between Diamonds and Stars?

Hotels and restaurants mustpass AAA’s professional inspection to get a Diamond designation. That means every AAA Diamond property is a good option for the type of experience it provides. There are no bad choices.

In contrast, many star rating systems include properties with poor ratings by unverified reviewers. While it’s helpful to know what other travelers have experienced, you want information you can trust. Hotel listings on AAA.com also include reviews by AAA Verified Guests, giving you the added perspective of travelers like yourself, along with the expert insight of our professional inspectors.

What is the Value of a Diamond?

AAA's 62 million members book more than 31% of all paid room nights in North America, and they rely on our assurance that every Diamond-designated property has met our standards for guest quality, cleanliness and condition.

For more than 80 years, our team of professional inspectors have conducted unannounced, independent, in-person property inspections across 26,000 hotel properties in North America.
