Alaska - Hawaii Road Trips

This section of the Kalanianaole Scenic Highway (SR 72) around the southeastern coast of Oahu highlights every type of natural wonder known to the island, including mountains, craters, parks and beaches, with azure waters. The phenomenal beauty that makes Hawaii such a visual treat displays itself all along this byway.

Nestled in the mountains and surrounded by water on two sides, Anchorage offers a convenient gateway to scenic Alaska. Experience history and culture in "The City of Lights and Flowers," or venture down SR 1, along marshy Turnagain Arm inlet, to fish, ski or hike in the wilderness.

Your journey on SR 9 is awash in gorgeous mountain scenery from beginning to end. The two-lane Seward Highway passes a variety of lakes, ponds and rivers colored translucent blue by "glacial flour." Pullouts offer breathtaking views as you meander toward Seward, a small seaside town.

Navigating the sometimes narrow, meandering Kuhio Highway, attention is easily drawn from the road to breathtaking views of green mountains, lush valleys and turquoise waters. Skirting Kau'ai's northern shore, SR 560 passes beaches, caves, cliffs, rivers, streams and some quaint towns. Predominantly one-lane bridges have weight limits, and beware of falling rocks.
