Lake George Scenic Byway (Lake Shore Dr./SR 9N) follows the western edge of scenic, 32-mile-long Lake George in the Adirondacks. At its northern end you can drive up to Mount Defiance for a spectacular view of the surrounding lakes and mountains that includes nearby historic Fort Ticonderoga, a meticulous reconstruction of the 18th-century original.

Two-lane Lake Shore Drive/SR 9N veers closest to beautiful Lake George at its northern end near Ticonderoga, which is where you'll enjoy the best views. Trees crowd the roadside elsewhere interrupted now and then by a diverse assortment of inns ranging from modest roadside motels and cottages to grand lakefront hotels like The Sagamore Resort.
