In between small towns, such as Valley City and Kathryn and their mom-and-pop shops, the Sheyenne River Valley Scenic Byway passes through vast prairies with far-off horizons. The vistas are speckled with trees and brush as a river makes appearances along the way. Before the road reaches its southern terminus at Lisbon, it passes by Fort Ransom State Park.
