Seasonal route: The road is subject to closure in winter. Beartooth Highway passes through quaint hamlets and rolls past farmland to alpine forests, granite cliffs and icy mountaintops. Roadside overlooks enable you to take a break from negotiating this winding, two-lane road, stretch your legs and fully take in the beauty of Montana’s Beartooth Mountains. Check local forecasts for winter road conditions.

From late May to mid-October this byway offers a stunning journey, twisting up mountains until reaching dizzying heights that overlook the amazing vistas below. No less an authority than journalist Charles “On the Road” Kuralt called it "the most beautiful road in America." Don’t miss the overlook at Beartooth Pass, at an elevation of almost 11,000 feet.
