If ever a movie location scout wanted to find the perfect shot for a northwestern postcard, it would be the drive along SR-200, along Lake Pend Oreille. The freshwater glacial lake is sandwiched between Kaniksu and Coeur d’Alene National Forests in Bonner County, Idaho. The curvy, two-lane, Pend Oreille Scenic Byway in the northern Idaho panhandle travels mountain valleys beside forests of Ponderosas pines, Douglas firs, red cedars and poplar trees.

One of the largest and deepest freshwater lakes in North America, Lake Pend Oreille is a dream for trout and salmon fisherman and sightseers. You can almost feel the chill from the clear water created by melted glaciers. See the bays of Kootenai, Oden and Ellisport, Denton Slough and the Cottage and Pearl Islands. The horseshoe-shaped Cabinet Gorge Dam offers a vast lookout point.
