Seasonal route: The road is subject to closure in winter. Breeze past alpine plateaus and verdant valleys along US 212 in northern Yellowstone National Park, where sagebrush-covered hills grow into 12,000-foot-tall peaks. Spruce, fir and aspen spring from mountain meadows, while shimmering streams decorate the forest floor like silver necklaces.

The western end of US 212 follows Bannock Trail, once used by Native Americans to reach buffalo on Blacktail Plateau. Tower Fall drops 132 feet from volcanic cliffs, tumbling into a clear pool surrounded by towering pines. Specimen Ridge, site of petrified wood fossils, offers a dramatic backdrop to the Lamar Valley in the central part of the route.
