Peer at the Sumpter Valley Dredge and mining equipment preserved from the Gold Rush era, then cast for trout in Phillips Lake.

Seasonal route: The road is subject to closure in winter. Gape at an amazing array of volcanic mountains within Wallowa-Whitman National Forest. Anthony Lake is tucked away in a bed of alpine firs at an elevation of 7,000 feet, creating a serene oasis inside a fortress of mountains. Stop in Baker City for an edifying look into Old West history. Take note: 7,392-Elkhorn Summit on FR 73 is closed in winter.
