Seasonal route: The road is subject to closure in winter. Traversing the northern portion of Yosemite National Park—and the park's only entrance from the east—Tioga Pass Scenic Highway (SR 120) is a visual feast. Frequent overlooks enable you to stop and gasp at one stupendous view after another. Negotiating some sections of the two-lane road is demanding, but the abundant natural beauty makes this trek well worth it.

From Lee Vining, SR 120 climbs some 3,000 feet within 12 miles; the panoramic views at 9,945-foot Tioga Pass are dizzying. The summer display of wildflowers at Tuolumne Meadows, surrounded by lofty peaks, is spectacular. Tenaya Lake's clear blue waters are another postcard-perfect sight. Weather depending, the road is usually open late May-early November.
