Seasonal route: The road is subject to closure in winter. Angeles Crest Highway (SR 2), the main passage through Angeles National Forest, slips through the foothills of the San Gabriel Mountains like a meandering stream. As its name implies, it then rides the crest of these rugged, Southern California peaks. Astounding mountain vistas appear around each forested bend.
The seasonal two-lane Angeles Crest Highway (SR 2) through Angeles National Forest is a narrow, curving corridor amid the San Gabriel Mountains. Mountain peaks dominate the horizon while up-close views include yellow flowers and foliage jutting out of the cracks of the rocky surfaces. The high-elevation winding road must be driven carefully.
