A few miles along SR 28, east of the aptly-named Crystal Bay, Lake Tahoe State Park’s Sand Harbor Beach State Recreation Area offers sandy beaches nestled below a breathtaking panorama of snowcapped peaks. Farther south just off the byway, visit Thunderbird Lake Tahoe Historic Site to see a magnificent stone lodge constructed in the “old Tahoe” style.
