Expansive tallgrass prairies, green pastureland and rolling hills along the Kansas Turnpike invoke a rural tranquility in this region of eastern Kansas. The byway crosses the northern tip of 8,000-acre El Dorado Lake. Quaint farmhouses dot low hillsides, grain silos rise up from the ground and during growing season, amber waves of wheat sway in the wind.
