Pass by moss-draped cypress and oak trees, ranches and small towns on the (mostly) two-lane Scenic Sumter Heritage Byway. Things to see include Sumter County Farmers Market, 516 N.W. 3rd St., in Webster (best on Monday) and a Second Seminole War site, 7200 CR 603, in Bushnell. The Florida National Cemetery, off of SR 4768B in Bushnell, is among the largest in the nation.

Northwest of Orlando and south of Ocala, the Scenic Sumter Heritage Byway shows that Florida is more than beaches and theme parks. The route—SR 50/CR 478/CR 673/CR 76/US 301/CR 470/SR 44—meanders from Mabel to the Withlacoochee River, alternating between lightly wooded rangelands and cypress swamplands. Agriculture and U.S. military history are represented here.
