Venture along Southern Swamps Scenic Byway in southeastern Louisiana past bayous, marshes and cypress-tupelo swamps as well as coastal hardwood and pine forests. SR 22/Old US 51 crosses over a network of creeks and rivers past fishing and hunting communities, rural farms and small towns.
Take a leisurely drive past wetlands where you might spy alligators, turtles and snakes as well as blue herons, white egrets and songbirds. You’ll drive through crop fields and rural farms on the western leg, small towns on the northern leg and lush swamps dividing Lake Maurepas and Lake Pontchartrain on the eastern leg.
