Unaweep Tabeguache Scenic and Historic Byway (SR 141) leads travelers into western Colorado’s remote and remarkably beautiful high desert. Following the Dolores and San Miguel rivers, SR 141 descends into shadows cast by towering buttes, passes posh resorts and abandoned mines and hugs the graceful curves of red-walled canyons.

Charting a spectacular course through the arid Colorado Plateau’s river-carved canyons, SR 141 boasts landscapes epitomizing the American West. The byway first enters Unaweep Canyon, where Thimble Peak soars above the ruined stone walls of Driggs Mansion. An overlook farther south reveals the Hanging Flume, a remnant of the area’s copper mining days.
