The Cowboy Trail Scenic Highway (PR 22) travels the pine-wooded hills and rolling rangeland of the Rocky Mountain foothills west of Calgary. The open country south of Cochrane and north of Longview allow for expansive views. The rocky grandeur of the distant mountains is present on the numerous occasions when the route crests the foothill ridges.

Alberta’s Cowboy Trail Scenic Highway (PR 22) features a variety of landscapes and scenery. The majority of the drive includes long sections of expansive fields and other sections of forested vistas. Small bodies of water, including the Bow, Elbow and Sheep rivers, can be seen too. In Turner Valley a roadway sign marks the history of the nearby Turner Valley Oil Field.
