Situated along the early Milford-Owego Turnpike, the village became an important transportation stop during the nation's 19th-century westward expansion. Today numerous historic buildings, tree-lined streets and country inns make it a pleasant vacation stop. The Columns is a Victorian mansion housing the museum of the Pike County Historical Society. The artifact collection includes the flag that supposedly was used to cradle President Lincoln's head after he was shot at Ford's Theatre; several tests have confirmed its authenticity. Native Americans and Underground Railroad are other local history topics that are showcased. The museum is downtown at 608 Broad St. and is usually open Wednesdays and weekends 1-4; phone (570) 296-8126. Learn More...
