Munster sits at the northwest corner of the state, a suburb of Chicago. Settlement along the Little Calumet River began in the mid-19th century with an inn and tavern to serve Chicago-bound travelers. Dutch farmers succeeded in draining Cady Marsh to create hundreds of acres of fields that supplied vegetables for city markets.
