The 633,600-acre Olympic National Forest, on the Olympic Peninsula, is noted for its rugged mountain terrain, lush rain forests and glacial streams. Roosevelt elk, deer and bears are among the large mammals inhabiting the forest; prominent trees are Douglas fir, western red cedar, western hemlock and big-leaf maple.
