About AmesFounded as College Farm in 1859 and renamed 7 years later, Ames was established on drained marshland adjacent to the proposed site of Iowa State Agricultural College, now Iowa State University. The school has made significant agricultural contributions. Ames has spread out around the campus, creating a familiar college-town environment.
