About Arapaho National Recreation AreaIn north-central Colorado, next to Rocky Mountain National Park, Arapaho National Recreation Area comprises more than 36,000 acres. Willow Creek Reservoir, Monarch Lake, Lake Granby, Shadow Mountain Lake and Meadow Creek Reservoir are open for fishing year-round; ice fishing is available December through April. Fishing licenses are required. Boat ramps are located at Arapaho Bay, Green Ridge, Hilltop, Stillwater, Sunset Point and Willow Creek Reservoir locations. (Note: These lakes have tested positive for zebra/quagga mussel larvae. To slow the spread of the mussels to other state lakes and reservoirs, the Colorado Division of Wildlife is conducting boat inspections in the area. Hilltop boat ramp and Willow Creek Reservoir are closed to trailered and motorized boats.)

Other recreational activities include camping, hiking and picnicking. Visitors may ride mountain bikes and horses, and, in winter, cross-country ski, ride snowmobiles or use snowshoes. Hunting also is permitted. Recreation fee $5 per day, $10 for 3 days or $15 for 7 days per private vehicle. Annual pass $30.
