About BorgerIn 1926 the Panhandle Oil Field was discovered, and a boomtown of 45,000 people mushroomed on the site of Borger. The town remains a major petrochemical center. Before the oil boom, the area's most significant events were the Battles of Adobe Walls, which took place about 37 miles northeast of Borger in 1864 and 1874.
