About BourneUntil 1864, Bourne was a part of Sandwich, one of Cape Cod's oldest towns. After the separation, the new town was named after Jonathan Bourne, the village's most prominent native son, a successful whaling merchant who set up offices in New Bedford. The cape offers travelers only two links to the mainland, one of which—the Bourne Bridge—is in town.
