About BuffaloMidway between Minneapolis and St. Cloud on the shores of Buffalo Lake, this settlement of farmers and fishermen was incorporated in 1856. The town and the lake took their name not from bison that roamed the plains but from the buffalo fish, a games species similar to the carp. In the late 19th century several hundred pounds of fresh fish a day were shipped from Buffalo to Minneapolis markets.
