About ChelanChelan, set amid orchards and vineyards at the southern end of its 55-mile-long namesake lake, has been a resort since the beginning of the 20th century. Dry, warm summers draw crowds to its three public beaches. Recreational activities include swimming, boating, water skiing and parasailing. Hang gliding and paragliding are popular at Chelan Sky Park, south of town via Chelan Butte Rd.
More than a dozen colorful murals decorate the exteriors of many downtown buildings. The 12-acre Chelan Riverwalk Park offers a paved 1-mile loop along the Chelan River. Area scenic drives include SR 150 northwest to Manson, and the road along the lake's south shore to Twenty-five Mile Creek State Park. The sunny hillsides flanking the lake have become an emerging grape growing region, and wine touring is increasingly popular.
