Richard Gird, a wealthy silver miner, moved to the area from Arizona in 1881 and purchased the 47,000-acre Rancho Santa Ana del Chino. There he raised cattle and grew sugar beets and at one time owned the nation's largest sugar refinery. In 1887 Gird began selling parcels of his land to create the town of Chino. Learn More...
