About ColonieWith a name derived from the Dutch word for colony, this community is Albany's largest suburb. Colonie is home to the Watervliet Shaker Historic District, where a group of utopian-oriented Christian believers worked in agriculture and commerce until the early 20th century; Albany International Airport now occupies a significant portion of that area.
Hiking and biking are popular activities. Several pull-in parking lots in Colonie allow access to the Mohawk-Hudson Bike-Hike Trail, a route along the Mohawk River.
AAA’s in-person hotel evaluations are unscheduled to ensure the inspector has an experience similar to that of members. To pass inspection, all hotels must meet the same rigorous standards for cleanliness, comfort and hospitality. These hotels receive a AAA Diamond designation that tells members what type of experience to expect.
