About CorningSpanish missionaries introduced olive trees to California in the late 18th century, and they were planted in the Corning area beginning in the 1890s. By the 1920s there were seven olive canneries in town, and this self-proclaimed “Olive City” located at the northern end of the Sacramento Valley still packages a significant percentage of the nation's olive crop.
