About FolkstonFolkston is near the eastern entrance to Okefenokee Swamp, an area of more than 600 square miles. Most of the swamp was declared a wildlife refuge in 1937.
Thanks to a track configuration that funnels railroad traffic into and out of Florida through Folkston, more than 60 trains pass through the town each day. The Folkston Funnel Train Watching Platform, near the corner of Tower and Main streets, offers a covered area from which enthusiasts can watch the trains pass by.
