More About
Hale iwa, HI

About Hale‘iwaMidway along O‘ahu's North Shore, Hale‘iwa (meaning home of the frigate bird) dates to 1832 when Protestant missionaries established the area's first church. After Queen Lili‘uokalani donated a seven-dial clock in 1892, it was known as the Queen Lili‘uokalani church. The clock remains, but the present church structure was built in 1961.

The O‘ahu Railroad arrived in the 1890s and the island's first hotel was built here in 1899. Hale‘iwa's harbor on Waialua Bay offers deep-sea fishing charters. Quaint, eclectic shops, boutiques and galleries line Kamehameha Avenue, the town's main street.
